News & Notes

  • Donations collected through the Feb. 12 Second Collections are earmarked for Community Legal Services and Counseling Center (CLSACC). This group relies on 100 volunteer professionals to provide a wide range of free and low-cost services to over 1400 individuals and families in Greater Boston.   • Download the new FUSN Adult Religious Education catalog for January-June 2012 to learn about the many free sessions including new offerings on Immigration: A Moral Issue and on Surviving and Thriving With Social Media. Enjoy popular topics such as Thirsty Poets: A Continuing Seminar, Mindful Parenting of Adult Children, Bible Study, and Asking the Questions.

  • Check the FUSN Arts Calendar for events through June 2012 and see how you can enjoy the arts right here at FUSN. Events include classical soloists, choir performances, vespers, art shows, and more.

  • You are invited to attend the ordination of Anne Bancroft, a longtime leader of FUSN’s religious education program. Click the headline for more about Anne and the ordination ceremony. FUSN will ordain Anne on March 4, 4 p.m.; all are invited to a reception in the Parish Hall from 5-7 p.m. Parking will be available up the Highland Street hill in the Second Church parking lots.

  • Effective Jan. 31, the FUSNews will be transitioning to email delivery. PDFs of the newsletter will be delivered via the email addresses in the office database, so please make sure that is correct. If you want to continue receiving a paper copy, please let Fran know before Jan. 31 by emailing office [at] fusn [dot] org. N.B. The PDF emailed to members will contain contact information for event organizers. A version without the contact information will be posted online and available to the public. Please add your contact information to your online directory listing on the FUSN website so community members can find you.

  • FUSN is actively seeking a full-time religious educator to lead and inspire FUSN’s active, diverse Lifespan Religious Education program. Learn more from the DLREM search page that includes a job description, program description, plus congregational information and survey results. New deadline—Letters of interest are due Jan. 31.

  • FUSN's Vespers, on the second Sunday of each month, are designed for diversity of spirit and thoughtful meditation. This is a unique monthly service of music led by the Vermilion Quartet and poetry—written or chosen—and read by FUSN's poets. Vespers wlll last just half an hour—a way to set aside the noise and stress of daily life and to spend some time in stillness and mystery. Come 7:30 p.m. to the sanctuary Jan. 8, Feb. 12, March 11, April 8, and May 13.

  • Plans to make FUSN a Green Sanctuary-accredited congregation are developing! You are invited to participate in committee meetings the first Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. and other activities. The group is beginning periodic nature walks after church on Sundays to explore sometimes undiscovered natural parts of Newton.
